ARUP Manchester

ARUP’s new 36,000 ft2 office in Manchester Piccadilly brought together the staff from two offices into one attractive, inclusive and sustainable space. ARUP chose Overbury for the design and build partnered with Rype Office for furniture remanufacturing – the team having previously delivered the successful sustainable refurbishments of ARUP’s Edinburgh and Leeds offices.

A responsible workplace utilising the circular economy to reduce costs and embodied carbon emissions

Low carbon fit-out

91,000 kgCO₂e of carbon emissions was saved on this project.

Sustainable furniture

To drive the carbon emissions saving, 70% of furniture was second life, including remanufactured sofas, lounge chairs, semi-private focus booths, stools and media units. These were integrated into the design with new colours and fabrics.

Design for social sustainability

The design team worked closely with ARUP to create a space that captures ARUP’s culture, fosters collaboration, improves wellbeing, generates inclusivity and adds social value. This included partnering with ARUP’s inclusivity/accessibility team to deliver a design that meets all employees’ needs, including accommodating neurodiversity.
